2014-2015 Car of the Year in Japan – the Mazda2

Mazda enthusiasts from Matthews, Concord and Monroe NC, and Rock Hill SC, will be pleased to know that the Mazda2, known in Japan as the Mazda Demio, has been named Japan’s Car of the Year for 2014-2015 by the Japan Car of the Year Committee.

The All-new Mazda2 – Zoom Zoom

Following what is fast becoming a preferred technology in the line of quality automobiles by Mazda, the Mazda2 joins the Mazda CX-5, Mazda3 (Axela outside the US) and Mazda6 (Atenza outside the US) in using the KODO Soul of Motion design language and the complete range of SKYACTIV Technology from Mazda.

Elements That Made the Mazda2 Car of the Year in Japan

Mazda’s Mazda2 new-generation sub-compact car was created to explode the pre-conceived notions that people have about the sub-compact vehicle segment. One way they have sought to change these old ideas is to add all of the new design ideas and technologies that define the Mazda line to the compact Mazda2 (Demio). These enhancements include a Human Machine Interface that makes safety the number one priority, an ideal pedal layout and driving position, a newly-developed SKYACTIV-D clean diesel 1.5L engine that offers exceptional the fuel efficiency and power to rival a 2.5L gas engine, and an interior/exterior style that is not only of high quality, but even of eye-catching sophistication.

These words mean a lot, when you consider that any vehicle that has an expected annual sales volume of more than 500 units is eligible for the Car of the Year Japan award. The last time a Mazda vehicle earned this honor was in 2012, and that Mazda vehicle was the popular and stylish CX-5. This year’s win makes the Mazda2 the fifth Mazda vehicle to win this prestigious award.
