Tailgating

Pickup trucks and country music go together like pie and ice cream. At work and at play, Americans love their pickups. You haven’t really enjoyed a country music concert, sporting event, or a day at the lake until you have added the fun of a barbecue or picnic from the tailgate of your very own pickup truck. Tailgating is also an excellent way of making new friends and getting to know your old friends even better.

As the second largest city in the Southeast and the third fastest growing city in the U.S., Charlotte, North Carolina offers a great deal of diversity when it comes to entertainment. Life-long Charlotteans and transplants alike love having fun, and there is no quicker way to a good time than at a country music gathering around the tailgate of your pickup truck. This summer promises to be one of the most entertaining ever and, with some of the biggest names in country music coming to town, there is no better time than now to gear-up for tailgating from the back of your “Cowboy Cadillac”.

Here is a list of some of this summer’s country music concert highlights:

  • Brad Paisley with Justin Moore – May 31 at 7:30 pm at the Pittsburgh National Corporation (PNC) Music Pavilion. Brad brings his soulful brand of country music to bear under the star-filled Charlotte sky in an amphitheater setting as the showers of April yield to the flowers of May.
  • The Zac Brown Band – June 4 at 7:00 pm in the PNC Music Pavilion. The Zac Brown Band opens up the month of June with their unique musical presence. It is always a great time when the Georgia boys come to Charlotte.
  • Taylor Swift with Vance Joy (1989 World Tour) – June 8 at 7:30 pm in the Time Warner Cable Arena. Nobody sells more records than this young lady — and for good reason. Look for her perfect voice and elegant blend of country and pop music to hit the mark in Charlotte.
  • Kenny Chesney with Chase Rice – June 11 at 8:00 pm at the Time Warner Cable Arena. When Kenny Chesney comes to town it is “good for what ails you”. As winner of six Academy of Country Music Awards (including four in row from 2005 through 2008) Kenney sings all of the hits that make us feel better.
  • Tim McGraw with Billy Currington and Chase Bryant – July 11 at 7:00 pm in the PNC Music Pavilion. True cowboy Tim McGraw brings in July with a bang. Tim comes to town with his Cajun country twang and a laundry list of gold and platinum hits to tickle your fancy.

  • Dierks Bentley with Kip Moore, Maddie and Tae, and Canaan Smith – July 17 at 7:00 pm in the PNC Music Pavilion. Dierks “feel good” country music sounds will soothe the savage beast within. Just check out his lengthy list of number one songs.
  • Shania Twain – July 19 at 7:30 pm in the Time Warner Cable Arena. The current queen of country is making a comeback and she’s stopping over for a mid-July show in Charlotte. Don’t miss it!
  • Rascal Flatts with Scott McCreery and RaeLynn – July 25 at 7:30 pm in the PNC Music Pavilion. Rascal Flatts has a loyal following of fans all across the South. Their mellow sounds and mixture of country and pop always make for a great concert.
  • Lady Antebellum with Hunter Hayes and Sam Hunt – August 7 at 7:30 pm under the PNC Music Pavilion. Perfect harmony and original lyrics are among the highlights expected when Lady Antebellum takes the stage in the Queen City in August.
  • Toby Keith with the Eli Young Band – August 21 at 7:30 pm in the PNC Music Pavilion. “Upbeat” and “rowdy” are among the adjectives used to describe the sounds of Toby Keith. You don’t want to miss this late-summer show in the Hornet’s Nest.

Get you pickup washed, waxed, and ready to go for the big tailgating opportunities that each of these major concert events offer. Plus, if you are in the market for a low-mileage, late-model, used pickup, Mazda of South Charlotte has a great selection in a wide variety of colors, makes, and models.
